もうすぐクリスマス。
浮かれた男女が街の中に溢れ返っているが、
実は日本のクリスマスはデマだらけである。
そこで、
クリスマスのデマを一斉撲滅させる。
クリスマスイブの朝は間違い！
ルーテル学院大学元教授で、
クリスマスに関する著書を数多く執筆している、
賀来周一さんによると、
「クリスマス・イブの朝」という表現は間違っているという。
「eve（イブ）」というのは、
「evening（イブニング）」の「eve（イブ）」であり、
「夕方」「夜」を意味する。
つまり「クリスマス・イブ」というのは、
24日の夜を表す言葉である。
従って「クリスマスイブの朝」という表現は存在しない。
X’mas「’」表記は間違い！
賀来周一さんによると、
「X’nmas」という表記は、
特に省略記号「’」を付ける必要はなく、
間違いだという。
そもそも「Christmas（クリスマス）」というのは、
「christ（キリスト）」＋「mas（ミサ）」で、
イエス・キリストの誕生を祝う祭りを意味するものである。
それを短く「X’mas」と表記する事があるが、
実はこの「X」は、
元々一文字でキリストを表すギリシャ文字である。
なので、
何かを省略している訳ではないので、
省略記号「’」は必要ないのである。
東京でホワイトクリスマスはない！？
日本気象協会の気象予報士・齊藤愛子さんによると、
ここ50年ぐらい東京都心で、
クリスマス・イブに雪が降った事はないという。
つまり、
東京都心のホワイトクリスマスを迎える事は、
ほぼありえない。
サンタが赤くなった理由は？
昔はサンタクロースの姿は多種多様であった。
赤だけでなく、
色んな色のサンタクロースが描かれていた。
ではなぜサンタクロースは赤のイメージになったのだろうか。
それは、
1931年にコカ・コーラ社が、
クリスマスキャンペーンに、
赤い服&白いあごひげの陽気なサンタを広告に利用し、
現在でも使われているのである。
だから別に、
何色のサンタクロースでも本来は問題はないのである。
サンタクロースは間違い！？
東京都・港区にある、
英会話スクールマリーインターナショナルの、
ジリアン先生によると、
「サンタクロース」は間違いだという。
正しい発音は「サンタクロース」ではなく、
「サンタクローズ」である。
英和辞書で確認してみても、
やはり「サンタクローズ」が正しい発音であった。
ちなみに日本でも、
大正時代の新聞を見てみると、
「サンタクローズ」と表記されていた。
元々正しい発音は「サンタクローズ」であったが、
日本人には発音しづらい為に、
「サンタクロース」に名前が変えられた。

キリスト教のイベントですからね。
それは大半の人が、
特定の宗教を持たない日本人の我々が、
輸入してきて大々的にイベント化してしまった訳です。
そうなれば、
間違いが多くなるのも必然ですね。

もう宗教云々関係なく、
クリスマスは一大イベントとしての地位を、
確立してしまっているので、
これはこれで日本の国民性が作り上げた、
一つの文化であるといっても過言ではないかもしれません。
ですから、
この情報を知ったからといって、
クリスマス当日になってアレコレ揚げ足を取るのは、
周囲のせっかくの高揚した気分を残ってしまう可能性があるので、
心のなかだけにしまい控えておいた方が良さそうですね。
