《今やる！ハイスクール》葉加瀬太郎「派手なワーグナーは究極の俺様キャラ！地味なブラームスはシューマンの妻と不倫！」

今回は講師のヴァイオリニスト・葉加瀬太郎が、
『クラシック音楽』をもっと好きになる講座を行う。
テーマは『人間性からひも解く、作曲家のここがスゴい！』。
この講義では、バッハにモーツァルト、
ベートーヴェンにシューベルトなど、
偉大な作曲家達の知られざる伝説や裏話、
そしてなぜ彼らは歴史に名を残す作曲家になれたのかに迫る。
ド派手なワーグナーと地味なブラームスの裏話！
ワーグナーは究極の俺様キャラ！
ブラームスはシューマンの妻と不倫！
19世紀半ば、
音楽はワーグナー派とブラームス派で対立した。
ベートーヴェンが音楽の革命を起こし、
19世紀半ばはこのベートーヴェンの意思をどういう形で引き継いでいくか、
大テーマになったという。
ワーグナーとブラームスは性格やスタイルはまるっきり異なり、
ワーグナーは究極のナルシストでSっ気が強かった。
音楽の作り方も俺様キャラをとことん貫いた人物であった。
一方でブラームスはコツコツ作曲し、
もらったお金はほとんど慈善事業に寄付し、
全く自分のことには無頓着であった。
ブラームスは26歳の時に、
シューマンのもとに弟子入りした。
シューマンの奥さんは大変美しく、
クララ・シューマンという名で、
当時人気のあったピアニストであった。
ブラームスは26歳で弟子入りした際に、
このクララ（シューマンの妻）と不倫関係にあったという。
この事実をシューマンは気付いていたという逸話があり、
シューマンはこの時期から精神を病み、
ライン川に数回入水自殺を図ったという。
最終的にシューマンは病院で亡くなったが、
「俺は知っている。」という意味深な言葉を残して亡くなった。
シューマンが亡くなった事で、
ブラームスは責任を感じたのか、
クララ（シューマンの妻）と生涯愛し合うが、
結婚することはなかったという。
そして自身を鼓舞するようなワーグナーと異なり、
ブラームスはほとばしるロマンが沢山あるが故に、
それを律する音楽を作るという。
またワーグナーの曲は自分の為に書いているので、
ワーグナー以外が指揮をしても違和感を感じ、
一方でブラームスの音楽は自分の為に書いているのではなく、
音楽の為に書いているので誰もが親しめると解説。
つまりワーグナーとブラームスの違いは、
音楽を人生に使ったのがワーグナーであり、
人生を音楽に使ったのがブラームスであると説明。

このワーグナー派とブラームス派の対立は、
単純に性格や音楽が正反対だからだけでなく、
その他の人間関係、更に政治的思惑もはらみ、
当時かなり激しくかち合っていたようです。
政治まで絡んでくるとは仰々しい話ではありますが、
バッハ等の時代（16～17世紀）の間は、
音楽家の地位は低かった訳ですから、
数百年の間に一気に音楽の地位が向上したと言えるでしょう。
また、これだけ音楽が対立していると、
気分によって聴く音楽を使い分ける事が出来ますね。
「楽しい気分」の時は激しいワーグナーの曲を、
「落ち込んでいる気分」の時は、
情緒的なブラームスの曲を聴くと良いかもしれません。
クラシック音楽というと敷居高く聞こえますが、
ワーグナーとブラームスのように人間性や背景まで知ると、
親しみ易く感じられるものですね。
